I’m best at creating things when I I have a fresh mind. As creativity is about connection- i.e., sharing and inspiring others, it is also about disconnection- i.e., taking a break to think, practice, and get new ideas worth sharing with others. In today’s world we are bombarded with notifications, social media posts, etc. I believe it is important to disconnect from this for at least 30 minutes per day (I take an hour) to go to my happy place. What is my happy place? Well, it’s a bedroom that I designed to be my happy place. I call it my “greenhouse” as it’s painted a misty green and it has a few plants and photos of butterflies, and rabbits, plus there’s a sliding glass door that leads to a balcony, so when I look outside I see the wildlife. It’s a nice size room to go to mediate, do my breathing exercises and just think. I don’t put the TV on or go on my phone. This is one way of how I get fresh ideas.
What is your ideal happy place to go and disconnect from the world?
I enjoy my quiet time. The best place for that is connected to nature. I may be outside or inside Where I listen to the sounds around me, smell the scent of the air, and observe the small things that are so easily bypassed. Opening up the mind and the senses is glorious and watching the natural world helps to ground me to what I want most for myself; to be a kinder, quieter more thoughtful being on this earth.
Being surrounded by nature is great place. It’s everywhere- outside or inside. As you said, when you take the time, you see and hear things that are so often overlooked. That’s why I believe it’s important to take a time-out during the day. I’m happy you enjoy your quiet time.
